Post Corner Tip

postcorner

Play: WR Post Corner
Playbook: Balanced, Tampa Bay

Steps:

1) Try and figure out what the defense is in zone or man.
2) If in man keep the play how it is and make the right reads. First you look at the outside Wr’s on the corner routes, next would be the post route over the middle, next the middle route to your rb, and if none of these are open then you will have the blue route as your last read.
3) If in zone smart route the outside post corner routes and these you rocket catch, next if for some reason you don’t throw these you can put your slot guy on a streak and rocket catch that as well.

4) Remember you can block your running backs for more protection when trying to rocket catch.

Jet’s Thoughts:

Now depending on what the defense is in Man or Zone, there are two ways to run it. You can run the smart routed way, which I would mainly do on zone like cover 3 and cover 4. When running it on zone, I mostly block my RBs because rocket catching takes time.

Leave the routes like they are on man to man and if you have a decent speed WR they will beat man coverage every time. This is a great way to get that big play you are looking for. Also the blue route to the fullback on man to man gets open every time.

The reason I like to run this is because is a very balanced play. You can go for the big play if it looks open or just take your time and move slowly up the field by hitting your running backs.

Why It Works:

The reason this play is so successful is because the post corner route this year kills man coverage. A lot of players know this so they run zone after they realize you have this play. Once they run zone, it becomes easy because when you smart route the post corner routes they get underneath every zone so it’s an easy rocket catch. Plus, you have two great running back routes that work both on man or zone.
