The Great Teams Tournament

The community’s front runner in online leagues has spear headed the charge into other ways to enjoy Madden. The Great Teams Tourney sponsored by The LEX, and hosted on AskMadden.com, is a fast and fun version of the game we all love. If you’re a fan of football and you enjoy building your own team, this is where you want to be. You can utilize the games legend players, up to 2 legends max, and build your ultimate Madden squad. In most cases your team will be rated in the high 90’s. But, so will your opponents team. Therefore in the grand scheme of things it simply makes us all evenly matched. It’s more fun then playing Cowboys against the Cowboys because my Cowboys will have Ben Roethlisberger and Donovan McNabb at QB. You may want Sammy Baugh and Peyton Manning. Again, you will have your own customized squad with players you hand pick.

Winning and losing is no longer based on who your real team signed or traded for. No more worrying about a roster update. And we could care less about a ratings bump. No we’re head hunters in this tournament. We’re the Daniel Snyders’ and Jerry Jones’ of our community. We acquire who we want and without regard to salary cap. It’s an uncapped year in the Great Teams Tourney, except the restriction on legends. No one can blame losing on his personnel. This game comes down to who has the best scheme, skill and stick.

You also have to have an eye for detail, because you will have to create your own jerseys. As I have discovered some of us in the Madden Community have no sense of fashion or color. I won’t name him but one prominent member of our community sports pink and lime green jerseys. Yuck! Others seem to go for a 70’s hypnotic effect spiraling all the colors they can find onto their uniforms. Some just splash a touch of blue or red and get on with it. If you’re epileptic beware because some create uniforms will prevent you from seeing players on the field.

But by all accounts this is a faster Madden game, as MLB Chuck Bednarik covers the flats and runs down quarterbacks with his 99 speed. What!? Yep, a 99 speed MLB. Too bad Chuckie gets run over in run defense or he’d dominate the game. Yes every player has his strengths and weaknesses so choose wisely. Barry Sanders has 99 speed also, but when he gets hit stick from a current NFL player such as Ray Lewis or that Patrick Willis, Barry tends to drop the pill on the carpet. Go figure!

This definitely isn’t your usual tournament. It’s a change of pace and that’s what we need. Sometimes a departure from the same ole, same ole can rejuvenate us. Playing competitively, all day, every day can be taxing. We place so much pressure on ourselves to be the best at this video game that we often neglect more important things like, work, school, relationships, and health issues. As my buddy Truth once said we need to get back to playing the game for the fun of it. The Madden Great Teams Tournament offers us a chance to play for the fun of it. Well we also play for $300.

Stop by, no come on over to, AskMadden.com where you can get some great tips from the community’s hottest pro players – for FREE! You can also join The Great Teams Tournament each month. It’s FREE also, but you have to post on the forums at AskMadden.com! That’s a great value, fellas!

Well, enjoy the game and we’ll see you on the field!
