Trips Bunch Verticals

verticals

Play: Verticals
Playbook: STL, PHI, West Coast, and many more

Steps:
1. Put RB on a hot route slant to the right.
2. Put outside left WR on a out route.
3. Or put outside left WR on a Streak
4. Motion right WR to the right and hike it when he sets his feet to get a jump start.

Jet’s Thoughts:

This play is mainly a zone beater. It has two unique streaks on the right that one will always be open to rocket catch against zone. When you motion the wheel route out you can also snap throw it if the defense doesn’t adjust. You have a great crossing route for over the middle. If that’s not open then look to your RB on the delayed slant route. Then your last read if nothing is open you have an out route to rocket catch to the left. Now this play isn’t an every down play it’s mostly a big yardage play.
Now on man I usually put the left guy on a streak o clear out the safety and the crossing route will always be open. It’s the best crossing route in the game for man but you will need some time and pass lead it to the left. If they don’t manually guard this route it will be open every time for a big gain.
Now again not an every down play but still a good play to run when you need big yardage.

Why It Works:

The reason this play is so unique is because the wheel route and the fade route on the right always get open vs. zone. Both of them will not get open but depending on what zone there in one will be open. Also is has the best crossing route in the game vs. man and a lot of people know that so they run zone and that opens everything else up. Plays like this are good because it’s let’s the offense control the game. This play is just a scary play to play against because it has so many deep routes that can hurt you. Now you see why so many top players have this in their arsenal.
